I thought you only offered vegan products?

Our products are not exclusively vegan but we do have a lot of options for vegans. All our ingredients are listed on the product page so you can double check what works for you.  We are a brand that caters to everyone!  We label all products to indicate if they are vegan or not.

What is "green" about your products?

Although we are not certifiably green, we are taking steps towards that.  So far Cherish & Swain provides green, biodegradable (sustainable) and plantable shipping materials. We also offer certain Green Products such as: Liquid charcoal cleanser and cleansing grains.  We will continue to update our customers with monthly product roll outs.

How do you make soap?

Soap is the result of a chemical reaction when an alkali such as lye (Sodium Hydroxide for soap bars, Potassium Hydroxide for liquid soap and for the cream soap makers out there a combo of both Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide) and an oil or fat ( we don't use animal fat in our products) combined together to cause saponification and tada...you have soap!

Is there still lye in my soap?

No.  When the lye solution has been combined with the oils, the chemical reaction that bonds the lye and the oils together into soap begins to take place. Lye is no longer caustic (active) once it has become soap. This is usually 24 to 48 hours from pouring the soap into the soap but you still need to cure the soap properly up to six weeks to be completely sure.  Your bar will be harder and milder to the skin.  as a side note... I only use food grade Sodium Hydroxide.  It is pricier and only available online but worth it in the end:

                                                 Technical vs Food Grade Lye

Technical = Industrial= impurities:  Has more heavy metal impurities than food grade and is considered drain cleaner.  That is why you can easily find it at your local hardware store.
Food:  (What we use):  Is used to make food such as pretzels and is regulated by the FDA.   According to Essential Depot, Food grade has a lower parts per million of heavy metal impurities."
Soapmakers out there may not mind using technical grade lye in their soap...but we definitely mind.  Why mind?  We are concerned about the care of your skin, and your loved ones too?
